About

Food Systems in a Changing Climate is part of the Community Engagement in Science initiative through the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Aberdeen in Aberdeen, Scotland. The primary goal of the project is to promote sustainable development by working with secondary schools to educate children on how globalised food systems impact the climate, our natural resources, and the overall resilience of communities to climate change related issues. Educational materials and projects are developed and shared with partner schools to engage students in these topics. Students are provided with the knowledge to answer the following questions:

Where does the food we eat come from?

What are the impacts of UK food consumption on the countries of origin?

How can local food production help to mitigate the impacts of climate change? How can local food production support sustainable communities and cities?

What are the impacts of food consumption on our natural resources and biodiversity? How do local food systems mitigate these impacts?

What actions can individuals and communities take towards these goals?
